How Netflix Was Ruining My Marriage

So I should start this off by saying Netflix is my favorite. I hate admitting it but watching TV is one of my favorite pastimes. I love just zoning out after a long hard day. There are also so many great TV shows on Netflix right now too so that doesn’t help at all.

Tommy and I started watching Netflix together when we were dating. We would watch it every once in a while and it was really fun to have something we did only together. Once we got engaged, I enjoyed watching shows with him even more because our days were so stressful and full of planning. Turning on the TV after a long day felt like the perfect way to unwind.

Now that we are married, we have seemed to have carried this habit right into our married life. And it has been detrimental to our marriage. I realized the other day that we don’t really sit and talk in-depth about our days as much as we used to when we were dating. Don’t get me wrong, we still talk, and a lot at that. But we don’t sit down and spend hours just talking like we used to.

We also used to find things to do together more than we do now. When we were dating, we would first try to find something to do like hiking or going out for ice cream. Now it seems we turn to Netflix first.

Now that the weather’s warming up, I decided to take a break from binge watching shows with my husband. I want to go out and explore with him instead. I want to exercise with him and stay healthy. I want to get to know him more. I don’t want to get lazy now that we’re married.

I want him to know that I still love him and still love doing things with him.

Some Things I Plan On Doing Instead Of Watching Netflix

    • Going to the gym
    • Going on a hike
    • Going out for ice cream/frozen yogurt
    • Going to the movies
    • Taking a walk

Does anyone else struggle with this?
(Please tell me I’m not alone!)
What are some other ideas I can do with my husband?

A Day In The Life | Blogtember Day 28

Oops it looks like a missed a few a whole lot of days in the Blogtember challenge. For the time being I decided I’m only going to blog when I have something to write about. I wanted to try to make a blogging schedule but as of right now I don’t think I’m ready for that commitment to be completely honest lol. But eventually I will get there. So today I am back and am going to run through an average day of mine.

6:30 – My alarm goes off and I try to get right up, brush my teeth then jump in the shower. After my shower I lay back down for the longest amount of time I can get away with without being late and eventually get back up and get dressed for work, do my hair, makeup, and make my coffee. Duh, who can survive mornings without coffee?? I will normally read my Jesus Calling devotional before heading out the door as well. I get pretty upset when I forget to do this lol.

8:30 – Work starts Monday-Friday. I am the Imaging Supervisor at a bank and typically for the morning I scan all the documents that I received from the prior day. Doesn’t sound like a very interesting job but honestly I enjoy it.

1:00 – I eat lunch with my friends at work. On warmer seasons we go outside after we eat and soak up as much warmth as we can because our building tends to be freezing, mostly just in the summer.

2:00 – Back to work – I either continue scanning the work from the morning if I haven’t finished or help with the daily work that the other scanners do. I’ll run production reports, fill out the time sheets (always last minute), or deal with any issues that come up throughout the day.

5:00 – I usually get home around 5. Before Tommy started working with his dad we would normally hang out. We still get to sometimes, when he has a day off. On a typical day, we eat dinner – whatever either his mom or my mom made. Sometimes we cook ourselves or go out and buy something. Then we talk a lot and catch up on each others’ days.

something we actually make ourselves ;)
something we actually make ourselves 😉

8:00– Sometimes, honestly probably more than we should haha we make Chocolate S’mores Brownies. I don’t wanna pretend like I made the recipe though. I got it from Rachel over at bakerita.com. She’s great, that’s her picture below too. Have I convinced you to try them yet?? If not, don’t worry I won’t stop trying. They’re just too good. Let me know when you finally do!

9:00 – By this time the s’mores brownies are in the oven and we normally will watch whatever show we are currently obsessed with on Netflix. Right now it’s Bates Motel.

10:30-11:00 – I get ready for bed and fall asleep somewhere between those times.

Well there yah have it. Not too exciting I suppose but I love it. I’m currently learning a new normal, which I talked about in my last post. Tommy hasn’t been around most of the nights so I’ve been doing an online bible study, reading, or spending time with friends.

ps. I thought making friends through blogging would have been a lot easier because of all the blogs I follow talk a lot about their friends and it seems like they have a lot lol but sometimes I forget that other people have been doing this for much, much longer than I have so that’s probably why. But in all honestly I would love to hear from you and chat. What does a typical day of yours look like? Is it similar to mine or completely different?
